18oz (305gsm) Hessian 1.8m x 50m
$235.00
When trying to protect concrete from rain or sun, it pays to get the right hessian. That’s why we only stock 18oz hessian as 14 oz doesn’t provide as much protection. Hessian is used to protect freshly finished concrete from rain damage and erosion from rainwater run off. Hessian can also be used as a wet curing aid by laying wet hessian over freshly laid concrete. The wet hessian hydrates the surface by holding moisture against the concrete’s surface.
Fabric Weight: 18oz (305gsm)
Roll Size: 1.8m x 50m

What’s the difference between jute and hessian?
- Raw Material: Both are made from jute fibre.
- Texture: Hessian tends to be coarser than refined jute fabrics.
- Flexibility: Jute is more pliable and soft; hessian is more rigid.
- Form: Jute is used in finer textiles; hessian is industrial-grade.
- Colour: Jute is lighter tan; hessian is more brown or golden.
- Strength: Hessian is stronger and better suited to outdoor use.
- Moisture Absorption: Both absorb well, but hessian sheets handle rougher conditions.
- Durability: Hessian is more abrasion-resistant.
- Eco-Friendliness: Both are biodegradable and compostable.
What’s the difference between burlap and hessian?
- Material: Essentially the same — both made from jute.
- Texture: Hessian (UK/AU) is generally coarser than burlap (US).
- Form: Burlap often refers to finer household or craft-grade jute.
- Flexibility: Burlap is more pliable; hessian is stiffer.
- Strength: Hessian is stronger and better for construction use.
- Moisture Absorption: Both absorb moisture well.
- Eco-Friendliness: Both are sustainable, natural and biodegradable.
How to make hessian waterproof?
Hessian can be treated to improve water resistance using several methods:
- Bitumen or asphalt coating for heavy-duty waterproofing.
- Spray-on waterproofing sealants (clear or tinted).
- Laminating with plastic film for total moisture block.
- Wax or oil-based treatments (less common for industrial use).
- Factory-treated waterproof hessian (available through select suppliers).
Are hessian concrete curing sheets flammable?
Yes — natural hessian is flammable, especially when dry. However:
- Treated hessian concrete sheets (e.g. bitumen-coated or fire-retardant versions) may offer reduced flammability.
- Always store away from heat sources and open flames, especially when dry or in storage.
- For added safety, consider using fire-retardant-treated hessian where the risk is higher.
