Since it’s an invention in the early 1800’s, the dumpy level was the tool of choice for surveying and levelling in construction. The dumpy level is still available today and is still considered one of the most accurate, precise and rugged levelling tools for measuring height and level. Today, there are many options available from, theodolites, rotating lasers, line lasers, grade lasers, total stations and full GPS controlled levelling. The rotating laser level has become by far the most popular method for checking levels or establishing grades and now come with a range of accessories and receivers to further enhance their use.
